Cognigyvs Callvu

Cognigy, now part of NiCE, builds and runs voice and chat AI agents for contact centers, including agents that take actions through APIs such as payments and subscription changes. Callvu is the Completion and Compliance Layer: when a conversation becomes a regulated process, Callvu runs it end to end through the back office to the system of record, deterministically, with compliance enforced at every step. A Cognigy agent can be one of the doors where a Callvu process starts.

The fair version

What Cognigy is built for.Sourced from their own pages.

NiCE announced its acquisition of Cognigy in July 2025 [1] and closed it in September 2025 [2]; the product is now sold as NiCE Cognigy. Cognigy.AI is an environment for building, testing and deploying voice and chat AI agents across channels [4]. Its Agentic AI, launched in November 2024, gives agents memory and goal-oriented decisions so they choose tools such as APIs and customer data on their own and hand off to humans or other agents [7]. Voice Gateway connects agents to telephony [5]; xApps open forms, payments, signatures and biometric login during a conversation [11]. Cognigy describes governance as hard-coded rules on tool access, Composite AI that can switch to a structured, deterministic process, and safety filters [8], and in March 2026 added side-by-side testing of prompts, guardrails and models before release and expanded MCP support, so agents can use external tools and expose Cognigy capabilities as services [3]. Customers use its agents to take payments, change subscriptions and update accounts [9][10]; AOK Bayern uses NiCE Cognigy's AI Phone Agent alongside CXone on NiCE's EU Sovereign Cloud [13]. It is delivered as SaaS [6].

When to choose which

Two different jobs.Pick the one you need.

When to choose Cognigy

Choose Cognigy when the need is orchestrating open-ended voice and chat conversations at scale [4], with AI agents that answer, route and handle routine requests [7] and on-screen steps inside the conversation [11], especially for contact centers on NiCE CXone [2].

When to choose Callvu

Choose Callvu when the conversation starts a regulated process that must reach the back office and the system of record. Callvu orchestrates the work, routes it by work type, skill and due date, applies rules and policies and manages every decision, and it runs the handoff in the same process with five moves: it prefills from what the core already knows, classifies each request the moment it lands, chases and verifies documents from customers and outside parties on a clock, routes decisions to the Decision Desk, and writes the result back by API. Back-office planning starts the moment the conversation does.

Guardrails are not runtime enforcement. Cognigy's agents choose tools and carry out steps such as payments and subscription changes [9], governed by rules hard-coded into each agent and content safety filters [8]; its documented admin audit events cover user and configuration changes [12]. Guardrails limit and record what an AI does while it does the work. Even with guardrails, an AI that runs a step can write wrong data to the system of record, take a path that is not in the workflow, or act compliantly most of the time rather than every time. Callvu does not let AI run the process. A deterministic orchestrator executes every step of a defined workflow and enforces every control before the step runs; AI, yours or Callvu's, only starts a process or evaluates it. Every run is recorded in a Decision Trace and an Audit Trace.

Side by side

The verifiable facts.Nothing else.

Every cell about Cognigy is sourced from its own public pages. Runtime enforcement and the handoff lead the table because they are where the two differ most.

Runtime compliance enforcementYes. A deterministic orchestrator runs every step; AI never runs the process. Every regulation and company policy is enforced on every step while the work runs, whether a person or an AI started it; a step that fails a control does not run. A Decision Trace and an Audit Trace for every runNot a platform capability. Rules on when an agent may act, such as running an insurance claim action only when the CRM shows an active policy, are hard-coded into each agent or flow, Composite AI can switch to a structured, deterministic process for compliance-driven tasks, and safety filters are built in. Elsewhere the AI agent chooses its tools and path, and no layer enforces every regulation and company policy on every step [8]
Front-to-back-office handoffYes, end to end: prefill from the core, classify the work, chase and verify documents, route decisions to the Decision Desk and write back to the system of record. AI guardrails vs deterministic executionDeterministic execution, not guardrails: AI never runs the process. Using both together

Keep what works.Add the layer that finishes it.

Cognigy stays the conversation layer. When a conversation reaches a regulated step, the Cognigy agent starts a Callvu process in the backend over MCP, which Cognigy supports for external tools [3], or hands the customer a prefilled, process-controlled screen for consent and signature while the conversation continues. Callvu runs the back-office work and the write back to the system of record, and returns status to the conversation. Callvu already runs behind NICE CXone at PSEG Long Island. Callvu can also run the whole process on its own, from any door.

FAQ

The questions buyers ask.Answered plainly.

Does Cognigy enforce compliance at runtime?
Cognigy lets you hard-code rules into each AI agent or flow, such as allowing a claim only when the CRM shows an active policy, can switch a conversation to a structured, deterministic process for compliance-driven tasks, and adds content safety filters. Outside those flows, these are guardrails on an AI that is running the step. Callvu enforces every regulation and company policy on every step while the work runs, and AI never runs the process: a deterministic orchestrator does, so a step that fails a control does not run.
Can a Cognigy AI agent start a Callvu process?
Yes. When a conversation reaches a regulated step, the agent can start a Callvu process in the backend over MCP, or hand the customer a prefilled, process-controlled screen for consent and signature while the conversation continues. Callvu then runs the rest through the back office to the system of record.
Is it safe to let a conversational AI agent take payments or change accounts?
Even with rules and filters, an AI that performs a step can write wrong data to the system of record, take a path that is not in the workflow, or act compliantly most of the time rather than every time. With Callvu, the AI captures the request and a deterministic orchestrator executes it, enforcing every control before anything is written.
Cognigy vs Callvu for an insurer's claims and policy changes: which fits?
Cognigy fits the conversation: answering, routing and handling routine requests at scale. Callvu fits the regulated process behind it: first notice of loss, documents from hospitals, repair shops and third parties, approvals in the Decision Desk and the write back to policy admin and claims, with every step enforced.
How fast can Callvu go live behind a NiCE or Cognigy contact center?
PSEG Long Island went live on Callvu in 4 weeks, integrated with NICE CXone. White-glove implementation is included in the Callvu license.
