Laserfichevs Callvu
Laserfiche is a document management and process automation platform: a records repository, forms and no-code workflow that your staff build, now with AI agents that route and move documents. Callvu is the Completion and Compliance Layer: it runs the whole regulated process for you, from the customer's request through the back office to the core, deterministically, with compliance enforced at every step. Laserfiche can stay the document repository while Callvu runs the process around it.

What Laserfiche is built for.Sourced from their own pages.
Laserfiche is a document management and process automation platform [3]. It provides a secure repository with metadata capture and automated records management [4], Laserfiche Forms for internal and customer submissions with routing and approvals [4], and no-code workflow tools with approval routing and RPA [6]. On AI, Smart Fields extracts data from documents and, since January 2026, auto-classifies them, and that data can trigger workflows [1]; Smart Chat answers questions over repository documents [7]; and AI Agents, generally available on Laserfiche Cloud since May 2026, carry out tasks such as flagging, tagging, routing and moving documents [2], can extract values into fields, act only with the prompting user's permissions and can be set to confirm each step, with logs that show which steps a user approved [5]. For banks and credit unions, Laserfiche markets account opening, loan processing, self-service and records management [4]; Dakotaland FCU, for example, automated nearly 250 workflows and 100 forms on it [8]. It deploys as Laserfiche Cloud or self-hosted Laserfiche 12 [9].
When to choose which
Two different jobs.Pick the one you need.
When to choose Laserfiche
Choose Laserfiche when the main need is an enterprise document and records repository [3][4], plus forms and no-code workflow your own staff build and maintain [6]. It fits institutions that want many internal workflows on one content platform, as at Dakotaland FCU [8], and those that need a self-hosted option [9].
When to choose Callvu
Choose Callvu when you want the regulated process run for you, end to end. Callvu orchestrates the work, routes it by work type, skill and due date, applies rules and policies and manages every decision, and it runs the handoff in the same process with five moves: it prefills from what the core already knows, classifies each request the moment it lands, chases and verifies documents from customers and outside parties on a clock, routes decisions to the Decision Desk, and writes the result back to the core by API. Callvu builds it, trains your team and stays through launch and ongoing management.
Guardrails are not runtime enforcement. Laserfiche says its AI agents operate within a governance framework and inherit user permissions [2], and those agents route, move and update documents and fields [2][5]. Guardrails limit and record what an AI does while it does the work. Even with guardrails, an AI that runs a step can write wrong data to the system of record, take a path that is not in the workflow, or act compliantly most of the time rather than every time. Callvu does not let AI run the process. A deterministic orchestrator executes every step of a defined workflow and enforces every control before the step runs; AI, yours or Callvu's, only starts a process or evaluates it. The system of record receives only what the workflow allows, and every run is recorded in a Decision Trace and an Audit Trace.
Side by side
The verifiable facts.Nothing else.
Every cell about Laserfiche is sourced from its own public pages. Runtime enforcement and the handoff lead the table because they are where the two differ most.
| Capability | Laserfiche | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary role | Completion and Compliance Layer between every front door and the system of record | Document management and process automation [3] |
| Runtime compliance enforcement | Yes. A deterministic orchestrator runs every step; AI never runs the process. Every regulation and company policy is enforced on every step while the work runs, whether a person or an AI started it; a step that fails a control does not run. A Decision Trace and an Audit Trace for every run | Not a platform capability. Workflows and conditional rules are set up by your staff in each form and process; automated records management supports FDIC, CFPB, FRB and NCUA requirements for records [4] |
| Front-to-back-office handoff | Yes, end to end: prefill from the core, classify the work, chase and verify documents, route decisions to the Decision Desk and write back to the system of record. Back-office planning starts the moment the front end starts | Partial. Laserfiche Forms capture customer submissions and workflows route them for approval, built per process by your staff. Chasing documents from customers and third parties on a clock and a record of why each step was allowed are not documented [4] |
| Orchestration, routing, rules and decisioning | Yes: workflow orchestration, routing by work type, skill and due date, rules and policies, and human decisions in the Decision Desk, built by Callvu | Yes: no-code workflow tools, approval routing and RPA, built by your team [6] |
| AI guardrails vs deterministic execution | Deterministic execution, not guardrails: AI never runs the process. A deterministic orchestrator executes every step and enforces every control before it runs, so nothing unchecked reaches the system of record and no step outside the workflow can happen | AI Agents carry out tasks from prompts (tag, flag and move documents), can extract values into fields, act with the prompting user's permissions and can be set to confirm each step; logs show which steps a user approved [5] |
| Document capture | Requests each missing item from the right party on a clock, reads it on arrival (OCR) and checks it against what the case needs: right form, signatures, dates | Smart Fields AI data capture with auto-classification whose data can trigger workflows [1] |
| Records repository | Not a document repository; files documents and the full record of each run to your systems by API | Yes: a secure single source of truth with metadata capture and automated records management [4] |
| Deployment | Hosted by Callvu | Laserfiche Cloud or self-hosted Laserfiche 12 [9] |
Using both together
Keep what works.Add the layer that finishes it.
Laserfiche can stay the document and records repository. Callvu runs the customer request and the handoff around it, then files the completed, checked documents and the record of who did what to Laserfiche and the core by API. Where you do not run a separate workflow platform, Callvu runs the whole process on its own.
