Camundavs Callvu

Camunda is a process orchestration engine on BPMN and DMN that engineering teams use to build and run long-running processes, now with AI agents inside them. Callvu is the Completion and Compliance Layer: it also orchestrates, routes and decides, but it runs the whole regulated process for you, from intake on every channel through documents, decisions and write-back to the core, with every regulation and company policy enforced on every step by a deterministic orchestrator. Camunda is a platform your team builds on; Callvu is built for you and live in a few weeks.

The fair version

What Camunda is built for.Sourced from their own pages.

Camunda describes itself as an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, reported nearing 200 million dollars in annual recurring revenue in August 2026, and says 9 of the top 10 US banks use it [1]. Its platform includes the Zeebe engine for high-volume, long-running processes, a shared BPMN Modeler, Operate for monitoring and an audit trail, and connectors over APIs and MCP [2], with DMN decision tables for policy [4]. Tasklist gives internal users forms, assignment and escalation [7]; public start-form links for external users were removed in Camunda 8.10 [11], and its building blocks include document reading with human review when confidence is low [5]. AI agents run inside BPMN processes and choose tools from a bounded set [6], and Camunda says policy checks and approvals modeled in the process fire before an agent's action executes [3][4]. It runs as SaaS or self-managed [8], with alliance partners such as Capgemini, Cognizant, EY and Infosys [9], and names banks such as NatWest, ING and Santander among its customers [10]. In May 2026 it announced ProcessOS in closed beta, to discover and re-engineer processes, with every change approved by people before it reaches production [12].

When to choose which

Two different jobs.Pick the one you need.

When to choose Camunda

Choose Camunda when your engineering team wants to model, build and run high-volume, long-running processes on an open standard [2], with AI agents inside the process [6] and full control of the engine, as SaaS or self-managed [8].

When to choose Callvu

Choose Callvu when you want the whole regulated process run and built for you. Callvu orchestrates the work, routes it by work type, skill and due date, applies rules and policies and manages every decision, and it also runs the handoff with five moves: it prefills from the core, classifies each request the moment it lands, chases and verifies documents from customers and third parties on a clock, routes decisions to the Decision Desk, and writes the result back by API.

Guardrails are not runtime enforcement. Camunda places checks between an AI agent's reasoning and its actions, and the process enforces the controls your team has modeled before an action executes [3][4]. Inside an agent's task, though, the AI chooses which tool to call, in what order, or whether to skip one [6], and only the controls your team modeled apply. Even with guardrails, an AI that runs a step can write wrong data to the system of record, take a path that is not in the workflow, or act compliantly most of the time rather than every time. Callvu does not let AI run the process. A deterministic orchestrator executes every step of a defined workflow and enforces every regulation and company policy before the step runs; AI only starts a process or evaluates it. Every run is recorded in a Decision Trace and an Audit Trace.

Choose Callvu, too, when time and services cost matter. Camunda is a platform your engineering team and partners build on [9]. Callvu's license includes white-glove design, implementation, maintenance and optimization for as long as it runs, with no separate services project, and Callvu goes live in a few weeks: Phoenix Insurance integrated all core systems in 4 weeks.

Side by side

The verifiable facts.Nothing else.

Every cell about Camunda is sourced from its own public pages. Runtime enforcement and the handoff lead the table because they are where the two differ most.

Runtime compliance enforcementYes. A deterministic orchestrator runs every step; AI never runs the process. Every regulation and company policy is enforced on every step while the work runs, whether a person or an AI started it; a step that fails a control does not run. A Decision Trace and an Audit Trace for every runPartial. Policy checks and approvals run before an action executes where your team models them into each BPMN process, including between an AI agent's reasoning and its actions. Using both together

Keep what works.Add the layer that finishes it.

Where Camunda runs internal processes, it stays. Callvu runs the customer-facing intake and the handoff, chases and verifies documents, sends decisions to the Decision Desk and passes complete, checked work to Camunda and the core by API, with a Decision Trace and an Audit Trace for every run. Callvu can also run the whole process on its own.

FAQ

The questions buyers ask.Answered plainly.

Does Camunda enforce compliance at runtime?
Partly. Camunda says policy checks and approval thresholds run on every case before any action executes, including between an AI agent's reasoning and its actions; your team models those checks into each BPMN process. Those controls exist where your team designs them, and no regulations come preloaded as policies. Where a Camunda agent acts, the AI chooses which tool to call. Guardrails are not runtime enforcement: Callvu enforces every regulation and company policy on every step with a deterministic orchestrator, and AI never runs the process.
Does Callvu do orchestration like Camunda?
Yes. Callvu orchestrates workflows across systems, routes work by work type, skill and due date, applies rules and policies and manages every decision. The difference is scope and delivery: Callvu also runs customer intake, document chasing and the decision workspace, and builds the process for you.
Can Camunda and Callvu work together?
Yes. Where Camunda runs internal processes, it stays. Callvu runs the customer-facing intake and the handoff, enforces every policy on every step and passes complete, checked work to Camunda and the core by API.
Do we need developers to go live with Callvu?
No. Callvu builds every process for you, with white-glove implementation included in the license, and goes live in a few weeks.
Which banks and insurers use Callvu?
Community Bank of Mississippi, Banca Transilvania, Bank Leumi and Phoenix Insurance are among the regulated institutions running processes on Callvu.
